What the law requires

Mandatory since 19 June 2026 — Your PrestaShop Has to Comply Now

The Directive (EU) 2023/2673, adopted on 22 November 2023 and published in the OJEU, introduces the new Article 11a into Directive 2011/83/EU: any online store —including your PrestaShop store— that allows distance contracts to be concluded through a web interface must mandatorily enable an electronic withdrawal function. It must be labelled, permanently visible during the withdrawal period and as easy to use as the PrestaShop checkout. If your PrestaShop does not have it, the legal period is automatically extended to 12 months and 14 days and you are exposed to "effective, proportionate and dissuasive" penalties (Art. 24). Frequently asked questions

Is this the withdrawal button the directive asks for?

Yes. Article 11a of Directive 2011/83, as amended by 2023/2673, calls it an electronic withdrawal function: a labelled button or link, always visible during the period, that leads to a form where the consumer declares the withdrawal and receives an acknowledgement. The module provides the button, the form and the acknowledgement, and lets you set the wording in each language.

Does it replace the merchandise returns (RMA) of PrestaShop?

It covers the legal declaration and its follow-up: the request, the acknowledgement, the statuses awaiting return, product received and refund pending, and the order status change when you accept. The physical return and the refund are still issued from the order in PrestaShop, so it works alongside the native returns and credit slips, not instead of them.

Can a customer withdraw without an account?

Yes. The form works for guest orders too: the customer enters the order reference and the email used to buy, and you can require that email to match the order. Guests get the same acknowledgement and the same follow-up emails.

What happens after the fourteen days?

You decide. By default the button disappears when the period ends. You can also let late requests through for manual review, useful when the customer was never informed of the period and the law extends it to twelve months.

What proof do I keep for an inspection?

The acknowledgement exactly as it left, downloadable as an .eml file with its Message-ID, the legal text the customer saw, and the history of every status change with date and employee. Nothing is purged automatically: the request is your evidence that the shop complied.

Which languages does it come in?

Spanish, English, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Dutch and Polish, for the page, the emails and the back office. Every text can be edited per language, and a language added later receives its texts on its own.

Is this module mandatory for my PrestaShop?
